MAINE AFL-CIO LEWISTON SOLIDARITY FUND

Published by Sharon Santos on

In the aftermath of the tragedy in Lewiston, union members from around Maine and the U.S. reached out to the Maine AFL-CIO to ask how they could help union members and families, local unions and community members who have been impacted. Four union members and union family members were killed that day in the mass shooting.

In an effort to support those most affected by the shootings, we have established the Lewiston Solidarity Fund. To ensure that all contributions go directly to those whose needs are greatest, the fund will be administered by a committee including Maine AFL-CIO staff, E-Board members, and representatives from Local unions that were directly impacted by the shootings. The National AFL-CIO has already contributed $5000, and we are reaching out now to ask you and your union to consider making a contribution. The funds will be received and administered by Food AND Medicine, a unionized non-profit (501c3/c4) worker center in Brewer that works closely with Eastern Maine Labor Council.
